Tournament Format and Rules

1. Teams

1.1 A team will consist of 3, 4 or 5 players. One player will be assigned Captain and will be responsible for paying the buy-in before first round, assigning players for each round, internal communication within the team, hiring and firing team players and all communication between the Tournament Director (TD) and the team. The Captain will also be the one person to receive any cash prizes and will be solely responsible for any internal prize distribution within the team.

1.2 Once a team player has played for his/her team he/she will not be allowed to change to another team within the same season. If an assigned player has not been actively playing for his/her team, he/she can freely change to another registered team.

1.3 The team will participate with exactly 3 players at each round of the PVP event. The team selection is entirely the Captain’s choice. Once the players have been appointed they will be randomly seated at different tables by the TD.

1.4 A team can sign up with 3 players and add players at later stages of the PVP event, as long as those players have not played for other teams.

2. Tournament Format and PVP Points

The PVP consists of 2 phases:

2.1 The initial phase is made up of 3 rounds played like single-table freeze-out tournaments. Each table will have players from different teams competing against each other.

Players will generate points which count towards their personal total score as well as the team’s overall score.

Each player represents 100 PVP points, which at each table will be distributed as follows:

2.2 Once the initial phase and the first 3 rounds have been played, points are added to find the highest scoring teams.

2.2.1 If a total of 9 or fewer teams participate, the top 2 finishers will advance to a final match. The format is three individual heads-up matches between players from each team.

2.2.2 If a total of 10 or more teams participate, the top 4 finishers will advance to the semifinals. The highest scoring team will play the team in 4th place while the other semifinal will consist of the teams finishing in 2nd and 3rd place. The format is three individual heads-up matches between players from each team.

3. Pura Vida Poker Rules

3.1 Regular tournament poker rules apply. The PVP format has been designed to avoid any collusion issues, however railbirds are only allowed close to the tables if they stand behind their team buddy. There will be no consulting or giving advice at the tables, all team discussion must take place away from the tables. If a team member on the rail gives any advice or voices his opinion during play, his team mate will be penalized at the table. Penalties include but are not limited to warning, sitting out for a number of hands, for 1 round, 2 rounds etc.

3.2 Chip stacks and blinds structure

For the first 3 rounds of play players start with $10,000 chips. Each level has a duration of 20 minutes.
