This prestigious title will be awarded to the player who manages to score the most points during the season of 2012. In every tournament that counts, $2 from each buy-in will go to generate cash for the GPOY prize pool and two free-rolls: The GPOY Free-roll June 24th Top 3 will split the prizes 55/30/15 (all tournaments from January 1st to June 23rd) and The GPOY Free-roll December 30th Top 3 will split the prizes 55/30/15 (all tournaments from June 25th to December 29th) 10% of the GPOY prize pool will be held back and awarded to the Player of the Year 2012 The points scored are calculated from a simple formula: GPOY points = [number of players] * [finish factor] * [SQRT(length of tournament in hours)] * [buy-in factor] Example: Steven Straight finishes 3rd at a 3 Kings event with 16 players. He wins 30% of the prize pool, and the tournament lasted for 4 hours, breaks not included. Steven scores 16 * 30 * SQRT(4) * 1 = 920.00 GPOY points.
